My Way #27: I Am A Gooner…

In recent years the term “gooner” has become mainstream – specially on social media videos on YouTube, TikTok, and others – when referring to horny people or as a synonym of porn addict. But, is the word used correctly or just being used for clicks? Well, as a bonafide gooner myself (hey, just check my Goonember posts here and here), I can tell you what gooning really is – and who is truly a gooner…

Lets begin with saying the obvious part – a gooner is a person who practices gooning. Usually male gooners use that term and female ones tend to use goonette. And what the hell is gooning then? Easy: It is masturbating to reach a mental state in which the only thing important is the pleasure felt in our genitals.

I honestly envy their computer setup…

The key here is achieving that mental state – how you get there is different for each person. Some reach that state after a few minutes, others like myself need hours to get there. For some, gooning is about cumming until their genitals are raw, for others, it is all about edging (masturbating getting close to orgasm then stopping to avoid climax), and for others, it is all about ruining their orgasms (basically reaching climax and stopping right at the start to have a diminished orgasm, leaving you unsatisfied). What is clear is that gooning is NOT regular, quick masturbation to bust a nut.

Personally, I find gooning very similar to tantric sex. It is using the pleasure from sexual stimulation to reach a meditative state where nothing else matters. Unlike tantric pleasure, which has the purpose of reaching a “higher consciousness”, gooning is just about feeling more intense pleasure. For me, it is about exploring my body, fantasies, and desires, focusing on how my body responds and taking my time to enjoy the whole experience. There are sessions when I want to ejaculate after a given time (usually after an hour or an hour and a half), at others, I just want to masturbate until my arm gives up (remember I have a few pinched nerves). My personal “record” was a session that went on for 16 hours – acting a fantasy with two of my dolls in which I would play with one of them (a.k.a. fucking the sleeve between their legs) for two hours, stopped by one hour, then continued the masturbation for another two hours. I would have a prostate massager inserted the whole time and avoided ejaculating until after I completed five cycles. The buildup was insane and the climax even better!

One, two, or three dolls are great to assist in the process…

That depends on your definition of “masturbation addiction”.

I admit I masturbate more than the average guy on my age group (50+ years), but no, I am not a masturbation addict. The main flag to be considered an addict of ANYTHING is that the activity affects your daily life in a negative way. We are talking about personal duties, relationships or finances. We are talking about getting in problems with the law (i.e. being arrested for public indecency). We are talking about spending the rent money on porn (or anything related to sex). So far, my masturbation had never got in the way of my personal or professional obligations, but to be more objective, let discuss some of the signs for masturbation addiction (from addictioncenter.com):

  • Masturbating several times a day – This happened when I was a teen, but all teens do that. Currently I am 53 years old. Even if I wanted to, it would not happen…so no, I only masturbate once per day.
  • Masturbating to virtual material repeatedly and frequently – I would say YES to this one, since I use lots of different inspiration material (porn, erotic fantasies, AI images, even swimsuit videos) to “rev the engines”.
  • Spending a lot of time planning how to engage in masturbation – No, I often decide how I will jerk off right when I am starting the session.
  • Using online or in-person sexual services, such as chat rooms, phone sex, strip clubs, or multiple partners – Being honest, I have NEVER used online chatrooms or cam websites. I sexted once and did not like it, and believe it or not, I find strip clubs depressing as fuck.
  • Becoming reckless or risky in fulfilling the urges to masturbate – Not at all. My masturbation always happens behind closed doors.
  • Engaging in sexual behaviors that cause distress to another person, such as exhibitionism, voyeurism, sadomasochism, or pedophilia – I do practice kink (BDSM, voyeurism, and others), but it has been always consensual so distress or hurting others is not present.
  • Isolating and avoiding activities with family or friends – My gooning practice is limited to bedtime. By then, I had spent all the possible time with family or friends whenever possible.
  • Misusing alcohol or drugs – Not at all. I barely drink and I use THC only to treat my conditions.
  • Engaging in masturbation even though it goes against moral, religious, or societal values – I do not care about religious values, but I still keep my practice on the legal side.
  • Feeling shame and guilt but still being unable to quit – Bitch please…
  • Experiencing an increase in anxietydepression, or other mental health symptoms – Not at all.
  • Having obsessive thoughts regarding masturbating – Not at all.
  • Showing less concern about self-care or personal hygiene – I have never been too much into personal image, but I still try to look decent in public. I also maintain my personal hygiene, brushing my teeth, taking at least one shower daily, and wiping my butt every time I take a shit.
  • Appearing disheveled – I have 15 damaged discs between bulged and herniated ones plus arthritis in all my joints, I always look disheveled thanks to the constant pain.
  • Lacking sleep – I have always had issues to fall sleep. In fact, I masturbate nightly to be able to fall asleep.
  • Losing or gaining weight unintentionally – I wish…I need to lose at least 50 pounds by next summer…
  • Being unable to concentrate or focus – I have ADD, so…
  • Sores, marks, or abrasions on hands, genitals, or other body parts – Only on my legs and arms…fucking mosquitoes

So, it seems i am not addicted to masturbation, but what about being a porn addict? After all, gooning is associated to massive porn consumption…

Let us do this quiz from Blocksite.com. If I answer YES to ten or more questions, I could have a porn problem…

  1. Do you use porn to avoid or escape your feelings and problems or to alter your mood? Not really. I watch porn to get the motor running.
  2. Do you feel restless, irritable, or anxious when you try to cut down or stop viewing porn? Not at all.
  3. Have you ever lied to family, friends, or others about your porn use? No, because they have never asked…
  4. Do you find yourself spending more time viewing porn than you initially intended? Not at all.
  5. Do you feel guilty, sad, or anxious after viewing porn? Nope.
  6. Have you ever promised yourself that you would stop viewing porn but were unable to keep that promise? No.
  7. Does your use of porn interfere with your relationships, work, or school? Nope
  8. Do you find yourself viewing more porn or different types to feel the same level of excitement? Yes…I vary the porn categories regularly.
  9. Do you watch porn despite it conflicting with your personal values or beliefs? Nope.
  10. Do you erase your browsing history or cover tracks to hide your porn use? No. I am the only one with access to my phone and computer.
  11. Do you find yourself turning to porn when you feel stressed, anxious, or lonely? Not really. I do masturbate / goon to relax (remember that the goal is to reach a meditative state), but I do not use porn every time I goon.
  12. Has anyone close to you expressed concern about your porn use? Nope.
  13. Have you ever tried and failed to cut back or quit viewing porn multiple times? Nope. I had stopped watching porn when I wanted to.
  14. Do you sometimes feel as though you’re driven to watch porn even when you don’t want to? Never.
  15. Do you spend more time thinking about when you can watch porn next? Never
  16. Do you prefer watching porn over socializing or engaging in real-life activities? Nope
  17. Has the amount of time you spend viewing porn steadily increased over time? It has stayed about the same.
  18. Do you feel uncomfortable or uneasy when you cannot access porn? Not at all.
  19. Do you ever feel that porn use is an important part of your daily routine? It is part of my bedtime routine, but not an important part.
  20. Have you ever neglected responsibilities or activities to watch porn? Never.

So according to the quiz, I am not addicted to porn either…

I would say the point is that because someone is a gooner / goonette, that does NOT mean that person is addicted to sex / masturbation / porn / or drugs. Yes, excesses happen – there are guys out there with terabytes of porn in their computers, “goon caves” with five monitors running porn, and even guys with “emergency kits” for them to goon on the road. Still that is not a reason to lump all of us into the same group.

So tonight, I will go and do what I do every night…

“Pinky: ‘What are we doing tonight Brain?’ Brain: ‘The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Goon for at least one hour. Go get the lube…'”
